old dog, new tricks

so, at 33, there are things i’ve been doing the same way for most of my life. one of these things, is how i tie my shoes.

i didn’t think much of challenging this convention, until i picked up a pair of skate shoes to kick around in (proverbially speaking… i haven’t actually kicked around on a skateboard since the late 80’s).

the laces are nylon and round, and i found myself retying them often. after one walk to the train (0.8miles) during which i re-tied each of them 3 times, i decided to seek a better way.

the blogs all went nuts a while back about a site dedicated to tying shoelaces, so i found this and checked it out.

the one that works for me is the “Ian Secure Knot” now my skate kicks go all day without untying.

Insert here the jokes about how “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” and also “the internet: is there anything it can’t do?” all i know is, now my shoes don’t untie themselves.

  1. Congrats on the knot tying skills.. Given my time in the scouts when I was younger, I promise that it will attract the best of catholic priests and controlling mothers that insist on forcing themselves into a world that was designed to be about a boy learning from a male mentor.

Regarding the skate shoes, while this is probably as cool and on equal par to me learning to be a ninja, my immediate thought was to check your flickr site for pictures of you with a pony tail driving your corvette with an underage runaway in the passenger seat (and potentially a disgruntled Steve Wilson trailing behind you in his hummer)

  2. wow, frank. are … drugs … cheaper in taiwan…

anyway. good to hear from ya.

btw, you’re a cheapskate — you’ll appreciate that i got my skate shoes — from sears — on clearance.
