stop comparing apples and oranges

okay, stop it. just stop it.
engadget: Fujitsu’s LifeBook P1620 is lighter than (MacBook) Air
wired gadgetlab: Fujitsu’s P1620 Subnotebook Is Everything The Air Isn’t
first of all: write original stories. kthx.
second, you’re comparing a sub-notebook tablet equipped with an 8.9 inch screen, to a laptop that has a 13.3 inch screen. they’re not even in the same [...]

start mobile passwords with a number

here’s my good deed for the week: i advise you to start any password that you have to type from your mobile phone with a number.
why? it defeats the auto-capitalization for text fields that they won’t let me give me a mechanism to turn off. otherwise you (well, I) end up typing your (my) password [...]

stop giving your installer a crappy name

okay, bitch time again.
when i download your program, and i save it to my downloads folder, and i want to find it later…
i want to find it listed alphabetically by product name. this means, do NOT:

put “Setup…” in front of the product name
put “Install…” in front of the product name
put “YourCompanyName…” in front of the [...]

predictive text juxtaposition: blog/clog

one of the things i find fun on a daily basis is using predictive text input on my phone, and finding sets of words made up from the same keypresses. yes, i’m easily amused. anyway.
i was logged in to IM from my phone this morning, texting my wife about trying out Google Reader in offline [...]

meeback!

okay, difficult to determine that i’m talking about meebo in the title, but this is a follow-up to my previous post about my dissatisfaction with meebo’s new features and their affect on performance and availability.
someone from meebo responded to my post, unfortunately getting flagged by akismet as spam. i just found the comment today and [...]

meeblow

today, i am sad. i actually had “meebo’s craptastic new features!” in the title before my editorial side thought that a bit harsh.
but just a bit.
don’t get me wrong – i’ve been a big fan of meebo for a while now. i’ve even blogged about them previously. but now, like a fanboy scorned, i’m firing [...]

my first experience with farecast

let me preface this conversation by saying: i assume the airlines are on to us. they know when we plan vacations (how far in advance). they also know they need to fill seats up, or they risk losing money with every flight.
with these 2 inputs of data, i hypothesize that they seek to maximize profit [...]
